El estudio de las enfermedades de la vulva es complejo y obliga, en la actualidad, a un enfoque multidisciplinario con la participación de dermatólogos, ginecólogos y urólogos. La vulva es el conjunto de los genitales externos de la mujer, que incluyen el monte de Venus, los labios mayores, los labios menores, el clítoris y el vestíbulo vaginal. Es asiento de un importante grupo de afecciones dermatológicas que pueden estar asociadas con una morbilidad considerable, incomodidad e, incluso, vergüenza. Las principales son las dermatosis inflamatorias (liquen escleroso, liquen plano, eccema y psoriasis); otras menos frecuentes son las preneoplásicas y neoplásicas, las alteraciones asociadas con enfermedades sistémicas y las enfermedades ampollosas.
Se presenta una revisión de las enfermedades de la vulva, con énfasis en las más frecuentes con las que se puede ver enfrentado el dermatólogo.
