Abstract

The case of a patient with a sexually transmitted disease is presented in which the treating physician, bound by professional secrecy, was requested by her/his patient not to perform the necessary medical tests to protect the her/his spouse. The case is analyzed from the standpoint of ethical principles. Guidelines for management are suggested.
