Abstract

medical researcher in antiparasitic drugs produced by a pharmaceutical company selects the same socially and economically depressed community to carry out his studies. The research subjects (adults and children) undergo confirmatory laboratory tests of their infestation and then are administered an antiparasitic drug product of the research of the company financing the study. After ingesting the drug, the research subjects undergo two control tests to confirm whether they are negative for the parasite or are still infested. Those who continue with the presence of the parasite in their examinations do not receive any additional effective treatment against the parasite and the community where the study is carried out is not educated in personal and community hygiene processes to reduce the probability of a new infestation.

The research ethics committee that reviews the project questions these two practices that it considers do not favor the population that is in defenseless conditions. The researcher considers that the demands of the ethics committee make scientific research and the advancement of science difficult.
