La terapia fotodinámica corresponde a una nueva modalidad terapéutica para el tratamiento de patologías premalignas, malignas y algunas inflamatorias de la piel, utilizando la generación de radicales libres de oxígeno a partir de la interacción de un fotosensibilizador con una fuente de luz apropiada. Se revisaron los diferentes fotosensibilizadores, fuentes de luz, mecanismo de acción y patologías en las cuales se ha utilizado.
