Atypical fibroxanthoma

The atypical fibroxanthoma is a cutaneous mesenchymal neoplasm with benign behavior that occurs in elderly males in sun-damaged skin. It shares similar characteristics with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (or pleomorphic dermal sarcoma), tumor with high risk and tendency to recur, metastasize and a relative bad prognosis. Surgery is the treatment of choice and it is suggested to do a wide resection with an adequate study of histopathology and immunohistochemistry for differential diagnosis with malignant entities.
