Abstract

Presentation of a case of a young woman who attends a gynecological consultation and asks the specialist doctor to perform a tubectomy because, in agreement with her partner, not having children. The doctor refuses, arguing that the patient does not know what she is asking for and is not aware that in the future she may regret her decision.

The patient insists arguing that her decision is the result of reflection and is consistent with her worldview and her lifestyle, but the doctor refuses to grant her request. The patient goes to the institution's clinical ethics committee asking for help. The Committee listens to the reasons of the doctor and the patient and gives reason to this, considering that it is a decision in full use of their autonomy and decides to request a specialist doctor in the institution to perform the surgery on the patient. An analysis is made from the ethical principle of respect for the autonomy of the performance of the specialist doctor and the patient.
