Abstract

Introduction: Benign neoplasms of the ungular unit have distinctive clinical appearance and biological behavior compared to similar tumors in another location. Some are unique to the nail apparatus, such as
onychocytic tumors and onychopapilloma. In general, they tend to respect the morphology of the nail, unlike those of malignant origin.
Methodology: Narrative review with a search in the PubMed and Google Academic databases, and in the Google search engine.
Results: Clinical and dermoscopic characterization of the most frequent benign nail tumors in clinical practice.
Conclusions: Benign nail tumors have distinctive and unique clinical characteristics that allow the dermatologist to easily differentiate them from each other and from tumors of malignant origin.
