The Social Security System in Health of Colombia has profoundly affected the way to provide health services, including labor conditions of workers in the health sector. The labor market in the health sector has been modified including changes in hiring, wages and working conditions of professionals. This study pretends to provide a description –or approximation– of the socioeconomic, geographical and occupational conditions of dermatologists in Colombia.
It is a descriptive study conducted between February and August of 2011 to dermatologists affiliated to the Colombian Association of Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery (Asocolderma) and Dermatology residents. It collected socioeconomic data, labor and geographical conditions including age and gender distribution, the cities with the largest concentration of dermatologists, the social security regime they work in and type of labor contract.
The sample is the largest data collected so far in Colombia determining demographic, social and economic characterization of dermatologists and it will be the basis for decision making in different areas that frame the study and practice of dermatology in our country.
