Las menbranas basales son estructuras especial izadas ubicadas entre las células y su estroma adyacente o entre diferentes clases de células en distintos tejidos. En la piel existen dos tipos: una vascular y otra que separa epidermis de dermis. Esta última sirve como sustrato para sujeción de células, plantilla para reparación de tejidos, matriz para migración celular y barrera de permeabilidad.
El estudio de la biología de la Zona de Membrana Basal (ZMB) permite un mayor entendimiento de las enfermedades ampollosas hereditarias y autoinmunes.
