A clinical case of a patient with an accidental injury that produced extensive burns with the loss of one eye and several fingers and large functional limitations after treatment is presented. We analyze the actions of the physicians according to the principle of respect for autonomy; they ignored the autonomous decisions of the patient, who was mentally competent, and decided to insist on saving the life of the patient.
