Ulcerative chronic herpes simplex in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus
Keywords:
HIV, herpes simplexAbstract
Skin lesions of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection in immuno-compromised patients can appear as they usually do or they may frequently have severe, chronic, systemic presentations. Chronic herpes simplex is characterized by ulcerative or hyperkeratotic lesions of HSV infection with an evolution time period longer than one month.
We present a case of an HIV positive patient with a 4 month evolution of perioral ulcerative lesions whom was diagnosed with chronic herpes simplex with a skin biopsy and who rapidly improved after the administration of intravenous acyclovir.
