Abstract

Introduction: High resolution soft tissue ultrasound is a useful tool for characterizing the findings of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). We present a series of 27 patients with a clinical diagnosis of SS who underwent high-resolution ultrasound.

Objetives: To describe the most frequent ultrasound findings in patients with HS. Establish the ultrasound Hurley staging. Describe the clinically non-evident ultrasound findings of the disease. Identify the inflammatory activity of HS by using Doppler analysis.

Methods: It is a retrospective, descriptive study. High resolution ultrasound was performed by a radiologist with an expert in dermatological ultrasound. A TOSHIBA XARIO 200 equipment with a high-resolution linear transducer from 18 to 22 MHz was used. The registration was carried out in a unified report created for the study based on the report suggested by the DERMUS group of which the researcher is a part. For the statistical analysis, measures of central tendency, description of frequencies and crossing of variables were used.

Results: The average age was 44.7 years. 74.1% of the patients were women. The most affected body área was the armpits, 55.5%. The most common ultrasound finding was the presence of fistulas. An increase in vascularization was found on Doppler analysis in 80% of the fistulas, indicating inflammatory activity. Hurley Stage I was found in 37.04%

Conclusion: Ultrasound revealed hidden fistulas in 29.6% of the patients that led to modifying the clinical staging of the disease. Ultrasonography is an important method for the correct management of patients with HS.
