Abstract

Background: Clinical research, and particularly clinical trials, should involve the assessment of quality of life in health care as one of the means to measure subjective endpoints among people, after the use of an intervention.

Aim: To evaluate the comprehension and interpretation of the Spanish version of Skindex-29 among Colombians.
Patients and methods: The test was administered to adults in an outpatient dermatological clinic and to individuals attending a dermatology private practice. Two groups of people were studied: healthy individuals and patients with any skin condition. Each subject made comments on the comprehension of each item, and suggested changes that could be made to the item.
Results: Responses of 21 individuals (9 healthy individuals and 12 patients with any skin condition) were analyzed. Mean age was 41.7 years and 66.7% were females. Four out of 29 items required translation and back-translation. Among these four, item 25 required another translation and back-translation due to difficulties on its comprehension.
Conclusion: We have developed a preliminary Colombian version of Skindex-29. The next step is the evaluation of measurement properties of the final questionnaire and the full assessment of construct validity, reliability and responsiveness.
