Ethics in academic publication

The HISPANO AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PEDIATRICAL DERMATOLOGY is consistent with the ethical principles it disseminates, and constantly strives to provide the reader with a scientific journal of the highest quality. The “Instructions to Authors” allow researchers to submit their work in accordance with editorial requirements, and the decision to publish an article is based on the importance of the work to the field of Dermatology, as well as its originality, accuracy and clarity. These recommendations from Ethics seek to protect the process of preparation, submission, evaluation and publication of articles from inappropriate conduct that violates the principles and guidelines of Ethics and the good practices that should guide scientific publications. They also aim to ensure the credibility that the Journal has today and ratify the adherence of the editorial team and the Colombian Association of Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery to the ethical principles, to the international standards of the WMA (World Medical Association) and other organizations. such as CIOMS (Council of International Organizations of Medical Sciences) and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), which ensure with their guidelines the application of the principles of ethics to scientific research and the publication of the results of said investigations.The research work must have observed the ethical standards of the Ethics Committee of the institution where said study was carried out, in addition to abiding by the statements of the Declaration of Helsinki of 1975, modified in Fortaleza (Brazil) in 2013, https:// www.wma.net/es/policies-post/declaracion-de-helsinki-de-la-amm-principios-eticos-para-las-investigaciones-medicas-en-beinges-humanos/ and the contents in Resolution 8430 of 1993 of the Ministry of Health and in Resolution 2378 of 2008 of the Ministry of Social Protection.

Code of ethics

In order to guarantee a harmonious relationship between the parties involved and guarantee the quality of the content, HISPANO AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PEDIATRICAL DERMATOLOGY  urges authors, reviewers, as well as members of the Editorial Committee and the Scientific Committee, to maintain standards of integrity. intellectual and scientific.     

Director's Obligations:

  • Consult the Editorial Committee to resolve problems related to the magazine's editorial policy.
  • Provide official proof to the reviewers for each opinion issued.      
  •  Take care of the validity of the magazine's legal records.      
  •  Ensure that the publishing process complies with copyright regulations.       
  •  Manage material and human resources with the corresponding institutions for the proper functioning of the magazine.

Obligations of the Editorial Committee:

  • Select and assign reviewers of the works received by the journal, based on their experience as researchers on the corresponding topic.
  • Communicate to the authors the results of the evaluation process to which the work received by the journal has been subjected.
  • Keep the identity of the reviewers confidential.
  • Reject those collaboration proposals that are published in other printed or electronic journals, as well as those that constitute total or partial plagiarism.
  • Carry out a basic assessment of the works received before sending them for external opinion and notify the authors of this decision.
  • Resolve conflicts that may arise in the evaluation and editing process, relying on the recommendations of the Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE).
  • Propose initiatives that lead to an improvement of the magazine in its different aspects: quality, visibility, presentation.
  • Assist in the editing process.

Reviewer Obligations:

  • Declare and explain, if any, a conflict of interest to make your opinion
  • Treat the text whose review you have been assigned under terms of confidentiality.
  • Maintain secrecy of your participation as a reviewer even after the work has been published.
  • Do not transfer your role as reviewer to other researchers.
  • Issue your verdict according to the merits and/or weaknesses of the assigned text, relying on the opinion format that is at your disposal.
  • Send the results of your evaluation within the period established by the magazine.
  • Do not quote or copy the text that has been entrusted to you.

Authors' obligations:

  • Send unpublished collaboration proposals, which are not found in other editorial processes.
  • Follow the standards for publication that the HISPANO AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PEDIATRICAL DERMATOLOGY stipulates.
  • Correct, expand or improve your texts, once they have been accepted for publication, taking into account the reviewers' observations.
  • Send corrections to your texts within the period requested by the magazine.

Authorship and contribution

HISPANO AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PEDIATRICAL DERMATOLOGY follows the criteria of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), which has developed four criteria on authorship, in order to reduce ambiguity around the definition of the role of author and collaborator. to. These are:

  1. That there is a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the article or to the acquisition, analysis or interpretation of the data;
  2. That you have participated in the design of the research work or in the critical review of its intellectual content;
  3. That there has been intervention in the approval of the final version that is going to be published;
  4. Be able to respond to all aspects of the article to ensure that issues related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are adequately investigated and resolved.

In addition to being partially responsible for the work, an author must be able to identify that his or her co-authors are also responsible. Authors must have confidence in the integrity of their co-authors' contributions.

Collaborators who are not authors

Contributors who do not meet the four previous criteria to be recognized as authors should not appear as such, but should be recognized in the acknowledgments.

Any additional guidance should be sought in these COPE recommendations which, in turn, are based on the definition offered by the ICMJE.

Intellectual property

The authors must respect the intellectual property of the material used in their research and communication. They must follow the basic reference guidelines adopted by the magazine in its Editorial Standards to indicate to the reader the origin of the material used, be it textual quotes, graphics, images, codes or any relevant element to reference the property of the person who prepared it.

Data and reproducibility

Data management is fundamental in research and communication practices in the contemporary world. HISPANO AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PEDIATRICAL DERMATOLOGY  urges ethical and clear practices for the collection of data that constitute a corpus of research. Likewise, consent and adequate information is a requirement when collecting data on human behavior.     

Finally, it is urged that investigations clearly detail the dataset used, the consent and survey model implemented, and, to the extent possible, provide technical guidance on where the dataset is hosted and the possibilities or guidelines for its reproduction in other investigations.

Ethical supervision

When describing experiences involving human subjects, authors should indicate whether the procedures performed followed the ethical standards of an institutional or regional committee on experimentation with human subjects, and in accordance with the World Medical Association and the Declaration of Helsinki. The authors will also send the informed consent form used for the study as an annex.
