Abstract

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic disease that affects 1-3% of the worldwide population; its greater incidence is between 15 to 35 years of age. It is defined as a disorder of immunological, genetic and environmental origin. It is associated with comorbidities including metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, besides, alterations in life quality. Treatment depends on the severity of the presentation.

Materials and methods: A cross sectional study was carried out in patients diagnosed with psoriasis treated with phototherapy at the Centro Dermatológico CES in Sabaneta (Antioquia), admitted between January 1st, 2006, and September 30th, 2009. Information from 93 patients was taken from medical charts, a survey and the application of the measuring scales of Glogau, DQLI and PASI.

Results: 43% of the 93 patients were women, and 57% men, the age mean was 45 years. The average evolution time was 14 years and 43% had comorbidities. All of them received topical therapy and 54.8% received systemic treatments. The average of accumulated joules was 393 J/cm2 , and the milijoules average was 45,320 mJ/cm2 . The average PASI value was 7 and 41.9% of the patients did not have their quality of life affected. 57.1% had stage III photoaging, 38.7% of the patients presented nail affection, and 23.6% referred articular pain.

Conclusion: The results obtained in this study are similar to those reported in the world literature, it is important to gather our own statistics.
