Resumen

El HTLV-1 es un virus linfotrópico y neurotrópico endémico en varios países del mundo, considerado el agente etiológico de la paraparesia espástica tropical y mielopatía asociada a HTLV-1 y de la leucemia y linfoma de células T del adulto. Se acompaña de diversas manifestaciones clínicas cutáneas y sistémicas, como polimiositis, alveolitis pulmonar, uveítis, síndrome de Sjögren, artropatías, estrongiloidiasis, crioglobulinemia y gammapatías monoclonales, entre otras, que producen gran morbilidad en los infectados.
