Diagnóstico micológico: del examen directo a los métodos moleculares

Resumen

Las infecciones fúngicas han asumido un papel cada vez más importante en la práctica clínica actual. Las claves para su diagnóstico radican, no sólo en una correcta anamnesis y examen físico, sino también, en los métodos diagnósticos complementarios; sin embargo, esto puede ser difícil, debido al reducido número de microorganismos en las lesiones y al lento crecimiento de algunos de ellos.
Por esta razón, se están produciendo avances importantes para la identificación rápida y específica de los agentes etiológicos, por medio de métodos moleculares y detección serológica de antígenos y anticuerpos fúngicos; algunos de estos métodos se están implementando ya en nuestro medio, por lo que el objetivo de esta revisión fue describir, no sólo los métodos convencionales, sino todas aquellas técnicas que faciliten el diagnóstico oportuno de las infecciones fúngicas.
